The Desertas Islands Nature Reserve is one of the most important marine sanctuaries in the North-East Atlantic. Renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, it provides a refuge for threatened species, including one of the world’s rarest populations of Mediterranean monk seals (Monachus monachus).
